2017 Schedule

Wednesday, April 12, 2017

The newly formed Oahe Racers Association announced their limited 2017 schedule for the return of National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Drag Racing at Oahe Speedway on Wednesday.  Racing at the Speedway was suspended following the 2016 racing season.

The group will promote racing at the facility, located 14 miles north of Pierre, SD, just off SD Highway 1804.  The first, of two planned events will take place on Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 28 and 29, 2017.  The second event is tentatively planned for Labor Day weekend, September 2, 3, and 4, 2017.

Both racing weekends will feature Shootout races on Saturday, with points series races being offered on Sunday and Monday.  Additional feature races on the planned weekends will be announced.

Oahe Speedway is South Dakotaís only quarter mile NHRA sanctioned drag strip.  The Speedway operated under prior management for the past 12 years.  In late 2016, the Oahe Racers Association was formed in anticipation of  running a full 2017 season under new management.  The group was unable to secure all funding necessary to reopen for a full season and made the decision to hold a limited number of races in 2017 with a plan being put in place to run a complete race schedule in 2018.
