Racers Association Announces Limited Oahe Speedway

The newly formed Oahe Racers Association
announced their limited 2017 schedule for the return of National Hot Rod
Association (NHRA) Drag Racing at Oahe Speedway on Wednesday.
Racing at the Speedway
was suspended following the 2016 racing season.
The group will promote racing
at the facility, located 14 miles north of
Pierre, SD, just off SD Highway 1804.
The first, of two planned events will take place on Memorial Day
weekend, May 26, 27, and 28, 2017.
The second event is tentatively planned for Labor Day weekend,
September 2, 3, and 4, 2017.
Both racing weekends will
feature Shootout races on Saturday, with points series races being
offered on Sunday and Monday.
Additional feature races on the planned weekends will be
Oahe Speedway is
South Dakotaís only quarter mile NHRA sanctioned
drag strip. The Speedway operated under prior management for
the past 12 years. In late
2016, the Oahe Racers Association was formed in anticipation of
running a full 2017 season under new management.
The group was unable to secure all funding necessary to reopen
for a full season and made the decision to hold a limited number of
races in 2017 with a plan being put in place to run a complete race
schedule in 2018.
